Human Bocavirus in Iranian children with acute gastroenteritis

Background: Human Bocavirus ( HBoV) infection is of worldwide distribution. There is increasing evidence that HBoV is pathogenic for the human gastroenteric tract. However, less data are available on the role of HBoV in gastroenteritis. The present study was aimed to determine the prevalence of HBoV in children with gastroenteritis.   Methods : Real-time PCR TaqMan was used to screen 200 st...

Evaluation of bocavirus colonization in children with asthma

Introduction: the rate of colonization of bocavirus (a newly recognized respiratory virus) was assessed in children with asthma and non-asthmatic condition due to the importance of bocavirus in preventing and exacerbating of childhood asthma. Materials and Methods: In this study, 142 samples of nasopharyngeal swabs were assessed (71 with asthma and 71 without asthma). Viral nucleic acid was ext...

Detection of human bocavirus in Japanese children with lower respiratory tract infections.

Human bocavirus (HBoV), a newly cloned human virus of the genus Bocavirus, was detected by PCR from nasopharyngeal swab samples (8 of 318; 5.7%) collected from children with lower respiratory tract infections. HBoV may be one of the causative agents of lower respiratory tract infections in young children.

Human Bocavirus in Children with Acute Gastroenteritis, Chile, 1985–2010

We detected human bocavirus in 89 (19.3%) of 462 fecal samples collected during 3 periods from 1985 through 2010 from children <5 years of age in Chile who were hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis. Our findings confirm the long-term circulation of human bocavirus in Chile.

Electron microscopy observation of human bocavirus (HBoV) in nasopharyngeal samples from HBoV-infected children.

The newly identified human bocavirus is frequently detected by molecular techniques in respiratory samples from children with respiratory tract infections, but virions have not been observed so far. We report the electron microscopy observation of viral particles in nasopharyngeal aspirates previously found to be positive for human bocavirus DNA. The virions presented the expected structural ch...
